Fiducia Wealth Management Co-Owner and Chartered Financial Adviser Susie Laws has won the 2021 Professional Adviser Women in Finance Award for Financial Adviser of the Year – Midlands & East Anglia for the second year running.

This caps an eventful 12 months for the former paraplanner.

Joining Fiducia a little over 4 years ago, Susie’s career has done nothing but speed its way to higher heights year after year. This latest award now positions her as one of the UK’s leading Women in Finance.

In March 2020, Susie, alongside Gordon Kearney (Fiducia’s Managing Director) completed a Management Buyout of Fiducia after the founder and Executive Chairman, John Millican, sold his majority stake.

In October of the same year, Susie was nominated and eventually took home her first award via a virtual ceremony for Financial Adviser of the Year: Midlands and East Anglia at the Women in Financial Advice Awards.

This latest award caps an eventful 12 months for Susie and showcases the talent and leadership Fiducia have amongst their ranks.

The rise of Susie Laws

Following her graduation from Cardiff University in 2006, where Susie gained a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) and a 2:1 in Modern Economic History and Politics, Susie set off into the world to make a difference in an industry that’s historically been dominated by males. Susie began by obtaining a number of qualifications with The Chartered Insurance Institute (CII).

By the end of 2007, whilst working at a small local IFA, Susie had gained CII qualifications including – Mortgage Advice, Financial Planning and Financial Planning & Services.

Susie’s first major role in finance came at the Colchester offices of Scrutton Bland in late 2008, where for 6 years she operated as a Paraplanner/Technical Paraplanner. During her time at Scrutton Bland Susie gained further CII qualifications in Life and Pensions as well as a Diploma in Financial Planning and was studying for the Advanced Diploma in Financial Planning.

In July 2015, Susie joined Chelmsford based Fairey Associates Limited as an Independent Financial Adviser and quickly completed her Advanced Diploma to become a Chartered Financial Planner.

After a couple of years learning her trade as a Financial Adviser at Fairey’s, Susie joined Fiducia Wealth Management in September 2017 as a Chartered Financial Planner. It was here where Susie started to progress her career.

In little over a year, October 2018, saw Susie become a Director of Fiducia and following the continued success for her clients she was presented with the opportunity to become a CO-Owner of the company in March 2020.

This is quite a progression for the former paraplanner and shows nothing but the sheer determination of a woman with a vision.

Amongst the midst of her progressive career, Susie – 36 years old, has also found time to start a family with her husband Graham and has two children, 8 and 11 to mother alongside her busy schedule. Having her own family helps Susie understand and relate to the needs her clients have managing their wealth.

On receiving the latest award, Fiducia’s Co-Owner showed her humble, human side:

“Firstly, I’d like to congratulate all the other women nominated for this award, it’s fantastic to see so many women achieving great things in our profession. I’m incredibly humbled to win this award for the second year running and hope that my journey can inspire other women to consider financial planning as a profession.

This award, much like the last, is the result of the combined efforts of all the team here at Fiducia. Without my colleagues I wouldn’t be able to provide my clients with the expertise they need. For me it is important for the client to be comfortable in the knowledge we have their best interests, their goals and their needs in mind at all times, I look forward to the future we have here at Fiducia as a team together for many years to come.

Thank you to Professional Adviser for this award, I look forward to continuing to deliver nothing but excellence for Fiducia clients in the future”

On congratulating Susie, Fiducia’s Managing Director Gordon Kearney added:

“Susie is a fantastic individual. I’m thrilled she has won this award for the second year running and I’m immensely proud we have her on our team. To win the award once is amazing, to win it for a second year in a row speaks volumes. It’s an incredible achievement and one I hope many will acknowledge takes an extremely amount of hard work to do so. Very well done Susie”

The judges said that it is great to see another young lady move up the ranks and creating further change within business and beyond.

This is a remarkable story of a young lady making waves in the finance world, long may it continue.
