2016 Breakfast Briefing review
John Millican welcomed seventeen clients and professional friends to this informal Fiducia event held on the morning of Wednesday 19 October at Mimosa in Colchester Business Park. John then welcomed our guest speaker Michael Hughes, CBE, Fiducia’s Economic and Investment Adviser. Below is a brief summary of the key points he made.
“I think there are a few things that I’m going to focus on [post-Brexit] the first is clearly the market had not anticipated this outcome so inevitably the initial market response was quite dramatic,” said Michael Hughes as his opening comment.

Michael then went on to highlight three key messages:
- We have now reached a turning point when the focus on monetary policy and fear of deflation are replaced by an emphasis on fiscal policy and the return of inflation. This carries important messages for investment planning.
- Real assets are likely to perform better than financial assets
- High-risk and Low-risk investments had been showing similar performance results, but this will now revert to their normal relationship.
Full English breakfast was then served to all attending, with a selection of cold breakfast juices (orange and apple juice), water as well as further tea or coffee. Questions were also asked of Michael by those attending and interesting informal discussions took place. Feedback on this event was very positive.
